Possible Straight-to-Series Order for Drama 'Marvel' from AMC
When we see the world Marvel now, we don't think about a word that literally means 'to be filled with wonder or astonishment'. We think of the mega-franchise based on a ripe comic book world that has pretty much taken over the entertainment world in the past decade.
But AMC might be looking to return meaning to the word with a scripted drama that is looking likely for a straight-to-series order from writer Mark Heyman.
The story is inspired by that of Jet Propulsion Laboratory co-founder Jack Parsons. It is based on the book Strange Angel by George Pendle. Parsons was mourned as a science prodigy in 1952 when he died prematurely at the age of 37. Soon after his death, it was discovered that the maverick rocketeer had been a devotee of black magic.
Heyman will play as executive producer with Scott Free Prods' Ridley Scott and David Zucker. Marvel will follow a model AMC has had implemented since last spring, whereby three drama scripts are selected for further development.
Writers rooms are set up to work on scripts and outlines with the intention of achieving a straight-to-series order. Three to five completed backup scripts are targeted, a few more outlines and a completely mapped out first season. In addition to this, AMC still picks up pilots, such as Fear the Walking Dead and Preacher.
