Quentin Tarantino Confirms Stage Adaptation for The Hateful Eight
Tarantino has said on numerous occasions that he'd like to adapt his latest film, The Hateful Eight, for the stage, believing it to be a natural fit for the medium. Speaking with The Wrap at the Golden Globes, Tarantino has all but confirmed that it will be happening.
"I've thought it out completely. I'm just waiting for this [awards] season to be over so I can write it. I gotta put myself there and write it for this." Tarantino also added that he would direct the adaptation himself, and said that producer Harvey Weinstein actually tried to direct the story toward stage in the first place.
"Harvey actually - he tried to talk me into doing it as a play first. He said, 'let's just say this out loud before we commit to doing the movie.' And I was like, 'look, I could. But I like the mystery aspect and the mystery aspect will really only work in the movie. And I have the 70mm and I have the snow. So let me do that.'"
Tarantino certainly comes across as indecisive, an ambitious man who juggles too many exciting prospects. What it means is that we shouldn't be surprised if The Hateful Eight stage adaptation gets sidelined, or whether his next film will suffer delays as a result of this project.
