Rami Malek in Talks To Star In 'Papillon' Remake
Mr. Robot's Rami Malek is reportedly in talks to join the remake of the 1973 classic 'Papillon". According to Deadline, Malek will be cast as Louis Dega, played by Dustin Hoffman in the original film. If the deal comes through Malek will be joining Charlie Hunnam who is cast as Henri Charriere, a role orignally played by Steve McQueen.
Papillon is based on the memoirs of Henri "Papillon' Charriere, a petty criminal who was wrongly convicted of murder in 1930's France. Charrier was sent to Devil's Island, a notorious penal colony in French Guiana. There he befriended Louis Dega and protected him from other inmates. Dega eventually financed Charriere's prison escape.
Filming is expected to begin in September and the movie will be directed by Michael Noer (Northwest), based on a script by Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners).
