Robbie Sheehan, Ronan Raftery Join Peter Jackson's 'Mortal Engines'
Roman Raftery (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) and Robbie Sheehan (Fortitude) have joined Universal and MRC's adaptation of Philip Reeve's Mortal Engines. Peter Jackson is set to write and produce the adaptation.
Sheehan is set to play a key role while Raftery will play a support one. Christian Rivers is directing the film while Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens are co-writing with Jackson. Universal serves as worldwide distributor.
The rights to a film were optioned by Jackson and Walsh back in 2001 from Scholastic. The project gathers the team behind the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and follows a futuristic Earth in which its cities roam around on huge wheels, devouring one another in a struggle over diminishing resources.
The film has a December 14, 2018 release date, and will begin filming in New Zealand this spring.
