Robert Kirkman is Open, but not Optimistic on Crossover Potential between 'Fear' and 'The Walking Dead'
Crossovers have seeped into the public conscious in nearly same way as 'extended universes' have, and they've made their way onto TV screens thanks to a plethora of superhero properties that love to play in one another's backyard.
So not for the first time, Robert Kirkman has been fronted the question of whether the casts of The Walking Dead and its sister series Fear the Walking Dead will ever cross the borders to intrinsically tie the two shows together unquestionably.
"They're definitely not in the same timeline just because Fear the Walking Dead starts while Rick grimes is in a coma," Kirkman explains. "So, Fear the Walking Dead season one to a certain extent happens inside of season one of The Walking Dead."
He answered this particular round of questions while at Hawaii Comic Con. Kirkman followed this with a nagging tease followed by disappointment for hopeful fans. "We're already on season seven and this one's on season two and that would be crazy," Kirkman says. "As far as if those characters will ever encounter each other, I mean, they're in the same universe so it's completely possible.
"Geographically, they're no where near each other so it would be somewhat farfetched if group A were to somehow encounter group B unless over the course of many, many, many, many seasons somehow it made sense."
Fear the Walking Dead is on hiatus, and will return in August. It seems likely The Walking Dead will follow on the heels of Fear, so there'll be no rest from the tense and dramatic world of the franchise until the end of the year.
