Ryan Coogler will write and direct the sequel to 'Black Panther'

Sources close to The Hollywood Reporter confirm the maestro behind Black Panther will return to write and direct the sequel to Disney's $1.3 billion dollar phenomenon.

Insiders say the plan is for Coogler to start drafting the script in early 2019 with "an eye to start production" late 2019 or early 2020.

While Disney and Marvel have yet to make the announcement official, Coogler's return signals the inevitable that Disney's follow up will officially factor into Marvel's phase IV slate, starting with July's release of Spider-Man: Far From Home.

News of Coogler's return also means we'll hopefully be seeing Coogler's creative team intact, including co-writer J. Robert Cole, DoP Rachel Morrison, composer Ludwig Göransson and the awesome production crew that helped make Black Panther both a box office and critical success.
