Saw Franchise Revived Following 2010's "Final Chapter"
The Saw franchise is evidence of the horror genre's struggles, continually falling back on older franchises as the genre struggles to remain relevant.
Following 2010's Saw 3D, which was billed as the finale, it's no surprise that the franchise is getting a revival. Trackers report that Saw: Legacy is moving forward and now has writers attached to the project.
Co-writers Josh Stolberg and Steve Goldfinger will take on those duties, who have together written Sorority Row and Piranha 3D. In addition, part of the team behind the first film will be involved. Original director James Wan, as well as screenwriter Leigh Whannell, will executive produce.
Wan's recent work on films such as Insidious and The Conjuring adds a little bit of hope and optimism to the project. If Stolberg and Goldfinger can bring a mix of horror and comedy similar to their work on Piranha 3D, mixed with Wan's horror sensibility, then the film may be able to remain fresh and exciting.
