Riddick getting TV spin-off and third sequel

Sequel and TV Spin-off for Riddick

NadiaA71 NadiaA71 It's hard to believe that it has been 15 years since Pitch Black (2000) was released in theatres. And now, fresh from his latest movie, The Last Witch Hunter, and the Summer's blockbuster Furious 7, Vin Diesel turns his attention to the Riddick universe.

It appears that the franchise is about to expand not just by a sequel but will also have a TV spin-off. Vin Diesel announced this new sequel and TV Spin-off for Riddick via his Instagram account.

"Last night our company had a party to launch our TV division," Diesel wrote. "MERC CITY is a show that will follow the Mercs and Bounty Hunters of the Riddick Universe. Next Month, DT begins writing the next chapter in the Chronicles of Riddick... FURIA"

DT or David Twohy, had been involved with the franchise from the beginning. He wrote and directed all three of the Riddick movies: Pitch Black (2000), The Chronicles of Riddick (2004) and Riddick (2013). Twohy also wrote two animated Riddick shorts: The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury and Riddick: Blindsided.

While Riddick may not have the pulling power of the Fast and Furious franchise it has always had a cult following to boost a modest box office. No news yet regarding filming date. Vin Diesel had also recently announced Furious 8 and an XXX sequel.
