Sigourney Weaver Spills New Details on Neill Blomkamp's 'Alien 5'
Neil Blomkamp's Aliens sequel well and truly has the breaks on, but Sigourney Weaver has made sure the film stays in our collective consciousness with the occasional hint and detail regarding the project.
And it seems the film won't have any need to tie itself to David Fincher's Alien 3, or its follow-up Resurrection by Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Weaver spoke with EW regarding the 30th anniversary of James Cameron's Aliens, and reveals cryptically that the sequel will not be beholden to canon established in the previousfilms.
“It’s just as if, you know, the path forks and one direction goes off to three and four and another direction goes off to Neill’s movie.”
Blomkamp had similar sentiments over a year ago. “My favorites are the first two movies. So I want to make a film that’s connected to Alien and Aliens. That’s my goal. I’m not trying to undo Alien 3 or Alien: Resurrection, I just want it to be connected to Alien and Aliens.”
There's no release date for the sequel, as it has stepped out of the way in order for Ridley Scott's Covenant to take the spotlight.
