Simon Kinberg in Talks to Direct the Next X-Men Movie

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell X-Men: Apocalypse was a fall from grace of sorts following up from X-Men: Days of Future Past, but it did at least round out the second "trilogy" in the longrunning franchise. Now, Bryan Singer looks to be stepping aside, and Fox is reportedly in talks to direct the next film in the franchise.

At this stage, the news is doing the rounds via Collider, and the site stresses that this could change at any time as the series seems to be in a state of transition. The film is rumoured to be titled Supernova, and Sophie Turner (Jean Grey, who would play an integral role in the film, which is rumoured to be based on the Dark Phoenix comic book saga) has said that the film is shooting in the summer.

Kinberg hasn't directed a film before, and this would be something of a gamble. But he's been a mainstay in the franchise and has been writing and producing on the franchise for over a decade. He wrote X-Men: The Last Stand, Days of Future Past, and Apocalypse, and has produced on First Class, Days of Future Past, Deadpool, Apocalypse, Logan, and Legion. He knows his X-Men.

We'll keep an eye out for confirmation on the news, but it's exciting times for X-Men fans. Apocalypse was for the most part a disappointing, but a fresh voice might just give the series yet another boost.
