'Sing' and 'Minions' Get Sequels Slated for 2020 While 'Secret Life of Pets 2' Gets Delayed
Universal and Illumination Entertainment have made some edits to their release slate for the coming years. Following a $429.7 million worldwide box office take for Sing, a sequel has unsurprisingly been slotted into the plans. That one will arrive Christmas 2020.
The Secret Life of Pets 2 had a release date of July 13, 2018, but that has been pushed back twelve months, now set to arrive on July 3, 2019. Minions 2, meanwhile, will land July 3, 2020, a week earlier than initially planned.
Illumination stepped out of its Despicable Me shadow with both Secret Life of Pets and Sing, given that past efforts to hit success have been misses instead (The Lorax and Hop, notably). With Despicable Me 3 on the way, as well as an animated take on How the Grinch Stole Christmas with Benedict Cumberbatch the lead voice, not to mention The Cat in the Hat, the studio is on the rise and basking in a bit of well earned glory.
