Southpaw Gets Re-Release in Lead-Up to Award Season
The Weinstein Company has announced that Southpaw will be re-released on more than 300 screens on October 2.
According to the distributor, the film now gets the opportunity to be seen "by a more drama- and awards-focused fall audience".
This follows up on Harvey Weinstein's comments all the way back in May at the Cannes Film Festival, where he vowed to get Jake Gyllenhaal an Oscar nomination.
That might be easier said than done, to be nominated let alone to win. There will be stiff competition, as ever, from names such as Johnny Depp, Michael Fassbender, Eddie Redmayne, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks, Matt Damon, Bryan Cranston...
It's an exhaustive list, but names that Gyllenhaal certainly deserves to sit alongside nevertheless.
