'Star Wars: Episode VIII' Begins Immediately after 'The Force Awakens'
Many fans may have predicted as such, but Rian Johnson has confirmed that Star Wars: Episode VIII will be kicking off straight after the events of The Force Awakens. This, interestingly, is something new to the franchise. "For the first time, we're breaking Star Wars tradition and starting our movie right where the last one left off," director Rian Johnson confirmed at Star Wars Celebration Europe today. "Skellig Michael is an incredibly mystical place. To be there and have that be the first thing we were shooting was an appropriately surreal way to start everything off."
Principal photography has wrapped on Episode VIII, though none of the cast will appear at Comic Con in San Diego this coming weekend following London's Star Wars Celebration.
The film is set for a December 15, 2017 release.
