Star Wars: The Force Awakens Crosses $2 Billion Worldwide
Star Wars: The Force Awakens has made history in many ways, and its list of box office accolades is nothing short of remarkable. We all knew it was going to be enormous, but this weekend has seen it officially pass $2 billion, under two months since it hit theatres.
Box Office Mojo is reporting that The Force Awakens passed $900 million domestically on February 5, and is the only film in history to do so. This took 50 days, in comparison to former placeholder Avatar's $760.5 domestic, which took 318 days to reach.
The film is the third ever to pass $2 billion, earning its place alongside Titanic and Avatar. It seems that Avatar's $2.7 billion may well be out of the question from here on out, Titanic's total of $2.18 is far more realistic.
The Force Awakens has been both a commercial and a critical breakout, resurrecting a franchise and rekindling the passion of fans all over the world. Will this fire continue to burn as we begin a cycle of never-ending Star Wars presence in the cinema?
