Steve Carell in Talks to Star in 'Minecraft'
The Office and The Big Short star Steve Carell is in talks to join Warner Bros. adaptation of the hugely popular video game Minecraft. Variety brings the news that Carell is negotiating a place as part of an ensemble.
Minecraft: The Movie will be directed by Rob McElhenney from a script co-written with Wonder Woman scribe Jason Fuchs. The game itself is not a narrative one, which means it's really open to any interpretation so long as it's done within the constructs of the universe.
Warner Bros. is eyeing it as a franchise with the same potential as The LEGO Movie, The movie is slated for July 25, 2019. Telltale Games showed what can be done in the Minecraft world with Minecraft: Story Mode, an eight-episode narrative and choice-driven video game that puts you in the shoes of an unlikely hero taking on a threat that could destroy the world.
