'Suicide Squad' Smashes Records on Opening Night
Suicide Squad was always tracking for a solid opening weekend, and in an age of records being broken every other month, it's no surprise that DC's villain-centric movie has done the same.
Warner Bros. has revealed that the film has reeled in $20.5 million on opening night, smashing the previous record holder Guardians of the Galaxy, which managed $11.2 million, for August openers.
Next, Suicide Squad has to beat the bad critical press and prove it has some longevity in its legs. Batman v Superman famously plummeted after an enormous opening, so the studio is left hoping that Suicide Squad can hang around for a while.
