'Supergirl' could be Headed to The CW on a Reduced Budget
Supergirl completed its first season in April, yet no renewal has been announced by CBS as of yet, which is certainly uncommon. New reports reveal that CBS wants to bring the show back, yet can't quite justify the cost of the series (at about $3 million per episode due to licensing).
The show's ratings haven't quite been stellar enough to warrant that kind of cost. Though, there may still be hope for Supergirl fans, as CBS co-owns The CW with Warner Bros. Entertainment. There may well be a chance for a change of network for the Melissa Benoist-led series.
The Wrap reported the potential move, though nothing is official yet. Some parties are in fact regarding this as rumour. Though, adding the superhero to the CW's already existing line-up makes perfect sense. The CW would not, however, be capable of maintaining the same kind of budget CBS was dolling out.
The show saw its viewership cut in half over the course of the season, though a renewed loyalty would be entirely possible should the character join Arrow, Flash and the rest over at The CW. For now, it's all up in the air, and we'll be waiting curiously for more news.
