Superman Prequel 'Krypton' is Getting a Pilot Order at Syfy
DC's cinematic universe might be off to a shaky start, but its TV chops have not gone unnoticed. Particularly under the CW, the DC TV world is thriving, with Arrow, Flash, Gotham, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, and I've probably missed one or two there.
Syfy is now in the process of ordering the pilot for David S. Goyer's Krypton, a project that has seen tough times in the developmental phase with no home and frequent rewrites. But it sounds as though the story of the House of El two generations before Superman is finally getting some curiosity surrounding it.
Deadline is reporting that a deal is being finalised, with Damian Kindler (Sleepy Hollow) coming on as executive producer and showrunner. Colm McCarthy is set to direct the pilot. Krypton is set to focus on Superman's grandfather during a time when the great House of El was "ostracized and shamed" on his home planet." The hero of the story must fight to redeem his family's honour and save his world from an unknown enemy.
Supergirl, and prior to that, Smallville, have shown that the Superman property can reap rewards outside of the caped boy-scout himself being front-and-centre.
