SyFy Launches Space Thriller 'The Expanse'
It appears that SyFy Channel is refocusing itself into doing more ambitious science fiction projects. The channel has launched an upcoming series, 'The Expanse' which is based on a popular sci-fi book series 'Leviathan Wakes' by Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck (under the pen name of James S.A Corey).
'The Expanse' takes place a few hundred years from now when the human race has made colonies on the Moon, Mars, and the Asteroid Belt. However, not all is well and utopia-like. The advance of technology has not erased our problems as we continue to battle each other for scarce resources to provide a burgeoning population.
The story starts with the case of a missing woman, and Detective Miller (Thomas Jane) is tasked to find her. Soon, however, the case developes into a vast conspiracy and Miller becomes entangled in a tense situation between Earth, Mars and the Belters, workers in the asteroid belt who mine water for all the humans on earth and on all colonies.
Aside from Thomas Jane, the cast lineup includes: Steven Strait (Magic City), Shohreh Aghdashloo (The House of Sand and Fog), Dominque Tipper (Vampire Academy) and Wes Chatham (the Hunger Games: Mockingjay).
Award-winning screenwriters Mark Fergus and Hawk Otsby (writers of Alfonso Cuaron's Children of Men and Iron Man) wrote the script for this 10-episode series.
'The Expanse' will have a two-night premiere on Dec. 14th and 15th. However it will debut online and on VOD on Monday, Nov. 23rd.
