Terence Winter describes 'Vinyl' as a "learning experience," believes it may have come too soon
Bobby Cannavale stars in HBO's rock n' roll drama Vinyl, which has seen an unexpectedly average response from critics and fans alike. Terence Winter has taken it in his stride, admitting that, like all of us, "I'm still learning."
Speaking at the 8th annual TV + Film Finance Forum East in New York, barely a week after HBO announced he would not be back for the show's second seen, Winter stated that "period pieces are really tough."
"It's tough to depict reality that's still fresh in someone's mind." The show has seen poor ratings for the network, which has brought executive producer Scott Z. Burns closer into the fold as showrunner going forward.
"Maybe it's too soon? I don't know." Winter remarked his envy of ABC's The Bachelor, a show his wife convinced him to watch and one he would love to learn the trade behind. "If we can find out how to do what they do, then scripted TV has a chance in this business."
