'The Flash' Gets A Release Date, 'Matrix 4' to Open Up Against 'John Wick 4'
Warner Bros. has announced two release dates for some highly-anticipated films.
The untitled Matrix 4 film opens May 21, 2021. The long time coming The Flash film will open July 1, 2022. The Flash has been in development at Warner Bros. since 2014, and the film was originally scheduled to be released in 2018.
Warner Bros. previously had Akira in the May 21, 2021 slot. That is now taken by Matrix 4. Akira is now undated due to Taika Waititi signing on for a Thor Love and Thunder at Marvel Studios.
The new Matrix film will be going up against John Wick: Chapter 4. Both films star Keanu Reeves. It is likely one of the films will be moved but still this is a fun coincidence. The Matrix sequel also stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Carrie-Anne Moss, Neil Patrick Harris, Jonathan Groff, and Jada Pinkett Smith.
Ezra Miller will return as The Flash. His last outing as Barry Allen was in 2017's Justice League. It director Andy Muschietti is on board to direct, and shooting is scheduled to begin in 2020.
It will be fascinating to see if The Flash actually makes it out of development, and if Matrix 4's date gets shifted.
