'The Girl in the Spider's Web' Gets 2018 Release Date, Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig Won't Return
David Fincher's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is not getting a direct sequel, so to speak, and its stars Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig are not returning to the franchise. But Sony is moving forward, with Fede Alvarez of Don't Breathe fame directing. The adaptation of David Lagercran's The Girl in the Spider's Web has an October 5, 2018 release date.
The book is the fourth in the Millennium series, and it was just last year that Sony announced a new direction was being sought following Fincher's attempt to kick off the thriller franchise. Alvarez has co-written the script with Jay Basu (Metal Gear Solid) and Steven Knight
"I’m hugely excited and grateful for this opportunity. Sony has become family to me and I can’t think of a more thrilling project to celebrate our relationship. Lisbeth Salander is the kind of character any director dreams of bringing to life. We’ve got a great script and now comes the most fun part – finding our Lisbeth," Alvarez said in a statement.
