'The Girlfriend Experience' to Explore Parallel Storylines in its Second Season

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell Starz's limited series The Girlfriend Experience is set to reshape the format created in its first season, and will feature two parallel storylines in its second. The series, which hails from executive producers Steven Soderbergh and Philip Fleishman, will be written, directed, and executive produced by Lodge Kerrigan and Amy Seimetz, as they did in season 1.

The new season will take on the successful anthology format, following entirely new characters, relationships, plotlines and locales. The 14 episode season will focus on two separate storylines, one set in Washington, DC, while the other in New Mexico.

Each writer is focusing on a separate storyline. Kerrigan's will take place against the backdrop of the corrupting influence dark many has in the upcoming 2018 U.S. mid-term elections. It will track an unexpected and complex relationship between a financial director and an intelligent GFE provider. Anna Friel will play the former while Louisa Krause will play the latter.

Seimetz's storyline, meanwhile, will follow Bria Jones, played by Carmen Ejogo, who discovers disturbing information about a client. Afterward, she is forced to relocate to New Mexico, though there she is unable to shake her desire for risky relationships and the finer things in life.

“It was always our intention to change the universe every season, but Amy and Lodge have cranked up the ambition, scope, and complexity of the show by creating two storylines even more provocative and confrontational than last year’s. I’m as excited as a Swedish person is allowed to get,” Soderbergh said.
