'The Lego Batman Movie' Tops Box Office Against Failed Competition

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell The Lego Batman Movie continued to rein supreme at the box office with a $42.5 million take, topping the competition for the second weekend in a row. The film has earned $107.1 million domestically. Fifty Shades Darker came in second with $24 million.

The sequel to Fifty Shades of Grey has earned $92 million, down from its predecessor which sat at $131 million at the same point in time of its release life. Fifty Shades Freed is expected to round out the trilogy next year. Universal and Legendary's The Great Wall, meanwhile, has collapsed.

The Matt Damon-starrer has earned only $21.7 million across 3,325 locations, stacked against its $150 million budget. So far, it has earned $171 million in China and has done reasonably in other markets too. John Wick: Chapter 2 finished fourth with $19.5 million, with its $61 million overall so far well above the original film's $43 million.

Fox's A Cure for Wellness earned only $5 million across 2,704 screens. The Gore Verbinski film sees a run of relatively unimpressive numbers so far this year, though that's sure to change in the coming months with some major releases on the horizon.
