'The Lion King' is Getting a Live-Action Remake at Disney, from 'The Jungle Book' Director
Disney continues its rampage through its own stock of past classics, and this time has pulled The Lion King from the pile. The classic 90's animated film has been green lit for a live-action remake, and will be directed by Jon Favreau.
Fareau follows The Jungle Book with the new project. His first live-action adaptation gig saw $965 million at the box office and has already earned a sequel booking.
The Lion King follows Cinderella, Maleficent, Alice in Wonderland, and Pete's Dragon, which have all translated into live-action franchises. A Maleficent sequel is in development, and Beauty and the Beast arrives next year.
