'The Lion King,' 'The Birds.' 'Thelma & Louise' Added to National Film Registry
The National Film Registry is tasked with preserving films that “represent important cultural, artistic and historic achievements in filmmaking.” There's 700 films from 1897 to 2004 that have been added to the registry, and 2016's additions are some recognizable classics.
Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds, Wes Anderson's Rushmore, Disney's The Lion King, Ridley Scott's Thelma & Louise, John Boorman‘s Point Blank, Rob Reiner‘s The Princess Bride, Robert Downey Sr.‘s Putney Swope, Buster Keaton‘s Steamboat Bill, Jr, and Robert Zemeckis‘ Who Framed Roger Rabbit have all been added in this year's inductions.
