'The Predator' Director Calls R-Rating Necessary, Talks Tone
Director Shane Black has spoken with Collider regarding his upcoming Predator picture, which is set to enter production in February. The R-rated film gets its classification because its necessary, according to Black.
"Fans of the Predator generally, probably aren’t looking to go to see a PG-13-rated version of it." He confirmed that Fox has supported the decision. For the film's content, he's aiming to recreate some of that ensemble dynamic created in the first film, though he will change things that seem a little dated.
Of what a Predator film should be, Black says it should be "scary, I think it should be funny, and I think ultimately it should be wondrous and about perceiving things that human beings very seldom get a chance to see."
