Hannah Al Rashid in Gareth Evans 'Pre-Viz Action' Short Film

'The Raid' Director Releases a Martial-Arts Action Short.

NadiaA71 NadiaA71 Gareth Evans, the Welsh director who created the fast-paced, bone-crunching action flick ‘The Raid’ and its sequel ‘The Raid 2: Berandal’ have just released a short film on YouTube.

The film is a ‘pre-visualization’ of a samurai-style action scene. For the choreography Evans once again collaborated with the Indonesian actors from ‘The Raid’ movies Yayan Ruhyan and Cecep Arif Rahman. The two also performed in the short with Hannah Al Rashid who was cast in V/H/S/2 (2013) in the ’Safe Haven’ segment directed by Evans.

The short film was made in a week in Wales and the shooting took 3 days with only the cast and Evans holding the camera. On his YouTube page, the director explained that they wanted to ‘create choreography that maintains the style and rhythm set out in their prior work (The Raid 1 and 2 movies) while staying within the parameters of a PG-13/12A audience friendly certification’. Evans also said via twitter that he just wanted to shoot a film after not picking up a camera for 2 yrs.

The story of the dialogue-free film is about a young warrior who is given a task of delivering a treaty between two rival lords. During her journey through the woods however, she finds herself hunted by two assassins intent on intercepting her message of peace in a bid to maintain fear, instability and violent rule of their leader.
