Tom Cruise in Talks to Star in The Mummy Reboot
With Universal launching its Monsters cinematic universe, the company is looking to nail down some A-list names to headline the new projects.
Coming in the aftermath of Universal reportedly having eyes on Angelina Jolie to play the Bride of Frankenstein, reports now suggest that Tom Cruise is in talks to play the lead in Alex Kurtzman's The Mummy reboot.
Variety is reporting that there is a production start for Spring 2016 for a March 2017 release date. Variety's Justin Kroll tweeted out to say that Cruise will reportedly play an ex-Navy SEAL in the mdoern-day and that the eponymous Mummy may be a woman (a popular rumour in recent months).
While Cruise and director Doug Liman hoped to join together for sci-fi heist thriller Luna Park, Liman has since signed on for 20th Century Fox's Gambit film. It seems Cruise has some spare time he might like to use elsewhere.
