Tom Cruise's 'The Mummy' Reboot Eyeing an Oscar-Winner for Major Role
Universal's monsters universe got a massive boost with the casting of Tom Cruise, set to draw a crowd to their universe-launcher all on his own. With the monsters universe in which iconic creatures will co-exist in the same world, it seems they won't settle for just one big name.
Russell Crowe is being eyed for a "Jekyll-like role" (via Deadline), with refers to Dr. Jekyll and his monstrous counterpart Mr. Hyde from the 1986 novel.
If a deal is reached, Crowe will join Cruise, Sofia Boutella, ANnabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Marwan Kenzari, and Courtney B. Vance. Variety reports that there is intended to be a solo film down the line for Crowe's character.
Given the universe is being filled with these iconic monsters, there's a good chance that "Jekyll-like" character is actually Dr. Jekyll, and The Mummy may provide a basis for a new film. A mystery movie has been slated for 2019, so we can add this one to the mix of potential placements.
The Mummy arrives on June 9, 2017, and is directed by Alex Kurtzman.
