Tom Hardy on Who Nearly Played His Role in The Revenant
In the shadow of Leonardo DiCaprio's Oscar nomination, Tom Hardy also waits out for the announcement with his nomination for Best Supporting Actor, playing the evil but somewhat understandable John Fitzgerald.
Speaking with De Pelicula, Hardy revealed that Sean Penn was initially set the play the role he ended up with, not to mention he himself was also due to film Splinter Cell at the same time.
Splinter Cell eventually hit its own production problems (with production to start this year), and Penn could no longer play the role.
"Well, Leo called me up, because Sean Penn initially was to play Fitzgerald. Then he was unavailable. I was going to be doing Splinter Cell. Leo called me up and said, 'I'm doing this film with Alejandro. It's really cool.' ... And that's it, really."
Hardy goes up against Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies), Mark Ruffalo (Spotlight), Christian Bale (The Big Short) and Sylvester Stallone (Creed) in the Best Supporting Actor category for this year's Oscars.
