'Tomb Rader' Film with Alicia Vikander to be Based on the 2013 Video Game Reboot
With breakout star Alicia Vikander at the forefront, the new Lara Croft big-screen tale is one with plenty of enthusiasm behind it. Now, we have also learned where the film will take its inspiration from.
The film will be influenced by the 2013 game, according to Vikander herself. “They were doing the film based on the reboot of the game from 2013. That [it] is more of an origin story. You get into an emotional aspect of getting to know Lara hopefully in an in-depth way. So I hope that doing a film of the rebooted game will bring something new and fresh that’ll stand on its own two legs.”
The rebooted game back in 2013 subverted the course of the long-running series, rewinding the clock for an exploration of the character's origins. “I, with the rest of the world, was excited to see a female protagonist in a video game. I was a bit scared playing it when I was 12, 13. I had to go take little breaks," Vikander said.
The film is slated for March 16, 2018.
