Paramount announces supporting cast for ‘Top Gun: Maverick’
The latest round of actors may not be household names but come July 2019, they'll all have Top Gun 2 as a wicked resume booster.
Paramount has signed six actors - all of whom are mostly unrecognizable names - as supporting cast alongside Top Gun 2 stars Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer, Jennifer Connelly, Miles Teller, and Glen Powell.
Deadline was first to confirm the roles for Top Gun 2’s diverse supporting cast featuring: Thomasin McKenzie (JoJo Rabbit) - the daughter of Jennifer Connelly’s character, Charles Parnell (The Last Ship) - an Admiral (Penny Benjamin’s Dad!?! Aka “The Admiral’s Daughter”), Jay Ellis (Insecure) - a pilot, Bashir Salahuddin (Gringo) - an engineer, and Danny Ramirez (Assassination Nation) and Monica Barbaro (Unreal) each will play Top Gun fighter pilots.
All six actors will join Cruise and Kilmer who are reprising their iconic roles in a story that will mark the end of the era of dogfighting but will introduce drone technology and fifth generation fighters. Two of those fifth generation fighters will be led by Miles Teller (Whiplash) as Bradley Bradshaw, the son of Nick 'Mother Goose’ Bradshaw and Glen Powell (Everybody Wants Some) in an unspecified role.
Top Gun 2 is directed by Joseph Kosinski and co-written by Peter Craig (The Town, Blood Father) and Justin Marks (The Jungle Book), along with Thor and X-Men First Class writers Ashley E. Miller and Zack Stentz. Harold Faltermeyer is also returning to score!
Top Gun 2 is slated for release July 12, 2019!
