Tyler Hoechlin Talks Playing Superman in The CW's 'Supergirl'
While Supergirl fans didn't get a look at Tyler Hoechlin as the man of steel yesterday, there's a pretty good excuse for why not. It's because the actor hasn't seen it yet.
Production has yet to begin on season 2 of Supergirl, so there was very little to share during their panel at SDCC. That being said, he did speak with press about the role, and was asked how he views the character and specifically in the wake of Henry Cavill's rendition.
"Yeah. I don't think you ever really want to do that anyway, to copy or emulate somebody. There's things you take from different performances from movies everywhere I think when you approach a character, but this one is a different tone for sure.
"The thought hit me the other day: with everything going on in the world right now, it's so fantastic that we have a show like this that goes at it from an optimistic and hopeful point of view. It's a lot of fun, and Melissa's the best. I know her through Blake [Jenner] from Everybody Wants Some!, and she's so fantastic in the show. I can't wait to get to work."
We can, from this, expect a more traditional version of Superman than we've seen on the big screen and in the comics of recent years. His enthusiasm is intoxicating, from what we've heard from him so far, so here's hoping it's a successful new portrayal.
