In the near future, the only currency is time. If time is stolen, the timekeepers will fight for it.
Cillian Murphy: People talk about running for your life. In this movie it's actually literally the case. Time has replaced money as the currency of human kind. Everybody's body-clock switches off at 25. To survive, you have to trade on time. I play a character called timekeeper Raymond Leon. He is the cop who enforces this system. It is the worst civil service job you could possibly have. He's clinging to that. But he doesn't ever have that much time to live.
He only has over a few hours. They don't get paid well. And he knows that it's wrong. But yet, it's all he has.
He encounters this character Will. Will is flipping the system and exposing it for what it is.
These were from the same side of the track as Leon. They develop a scourging respect for each other.
And he has decided to take this path in his life. And all the misgivings and issues he would've had with the system, he's trying to leave it behind.
But Leon clings desperately to this system. And pursues his goal of keeping time.
