Harrison Ford on why he liked playing Woodrow Dolarhyde in Cowboys and Aliens
Harrison Ford as Col. Woodrow Dolarhyde: My interested in Cowboys and Aliens is the cowboy part of the story. It was every man for himself.
My real hook was the character and the opportunity to play something, a character somewhat different from what I've done in the past.
The character that I play is an old rancher Woodrow Dolarhyde, the richest guy in town. He pretty much controls the town.
The stranger comes into town. The stranger who doesn't remember his past. And we have a very uncomfortable meet. He's been instrumental in the fact that my son is in jail. And besides that he appears to be the guy who stole my gold. So we're not very friendly. But then it becomes clear that we each have something to lend the other.
This is a character that I thought was well articulated. And even more interesting as we went through the process. The opportunity to play a character like Woodrow Dolarhyde, who makes no apologies, is kind of a delight.
