Rafe Spall: The William Shakespeare that I'm playing is in actor. And he is the kind of most famous actor of his day. He gets this incredible opportunity to take on the Shakespeare plays. And he runs with it.
I wanted Shakespeare to look exactly like people would imagine him to look when they close their eyes and think of an image of William Shakespeare. Although there's no existing portrait of Shakespeare when he was still alive, we all still have an idea of what William Shakespeare looked like. And I wanted him to look like that. So then when he opens his mouth, he completely confounds that. In being something completely different than what you imagined it to be.
