Walt Disney Pictures is Developing Several Live Action Takes on Animated Classics
At Walt Disney Pictures, the company has been recently creating and exploring new ideas on making classic animated films into live action hits with a twist...
Winnie the pooh
Yes you read that correctly. There will be a live action remake of 'Winnie the Pooh' in the near future. Although the story won't be focusing as much on Pooh but on the character Christopher Robin. Alex Ross Perry will be writing the script for the film. Rumors suggest Tim Burton might be involved with the project.
Tink
This live action movie will be based off of the popular character from "Peter Pan". Most of the plot is unknown at this time, we can confirm that Reese Witherspoon will be playing Tinker Bell. The main focus of the film will be on Tinker Bell.
Dumbo
The popular and friendly elephant will be soaring back into theaters but in a whole new way. Blending CGI with live action will be how the new Dumbo will be presented. Tim Burton is set to direct the film. The Wall Street Journal first reported on Tim Burton being attached to the project.
Cruella
Based on the villainous character in "101 Dalmatians". Cruella de Vill will get her very own live action film. Aline Brosh Mckenna will be writing the script for this unique project. The movie will be filmed similar to "Malificent."The plot hasn't been revealed at this time but it's likely to be a "My side of the story" film like "Malificent."
Mulan
Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek penned a script for "Mulan" and Disney bought it. Chris Bender and J.C. Spink (We're the Millers) will be producing the project. If you have forgotten what "Mulan" was about, it followed a young woman who disguises herself as a man so she can take her father's place in the army and go to war. With the help of her trusty and hilarious dragon sidekick Mushu, she becomes a skilled warrior and, eventually, one of the country's greatest heroines. Jenna Ushkowitz (Glee) is in talks to play the role.
Pinnochio
A live action remake of the classic Italian tale "Pinnochio" is in development. Peter Hedges is writing a script for the film and it will be "loosely-based" on the 1940's animated version. This isn't the first time Hedges has worked with Disney either, he was the main writer for "The Odd Life of Timothy Green".
Night on bald mountain
"Night on Bald Mountain" was a segment from Walt Disney's misunderstood classic "Fantasia." In this section of the film it surrounds the winged creature "Chernabog" raising spirits from the dead. The spirits enjoy a night of freedom and reeking mayhem until they fade away when the sun rises the next morning. Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless will write the script for the interesting project. The duo writing the script is known for great interpretations of dark fairy tales. The duo has written scripts for "Dracula Untold" and "The Last Witch Hunter."
Sword in the stone
"Game of Thrones" writer Bryan Cogman will be tackling the project. The original cartoon was based off of T.H. White's novel of the same name. The original story followed around an orphan named Arthur who became king after removing a sword from the anvil in London.
Bonus Genies:
"Genies" is being written by Mark Swift and Damian Shannon. They have been developing this project since Summer. The movie will be a live action comedy and it will be a prequel to "Aladdin". The movie will also lead into a live action "Aladdin" in the future. Disney originally planned to use Robin Williams old recording sessions for "Aladdin" on the film "Genies". Sadly in William's will it refrained the studio from using his likeness until twenty-five years after his death.
I hope you enjoyed a look into the future of Disney's live action films!
