Warner Bros. Responds to 'Batman v Superman' Criticism, Fan Response
The divide between critic and audience has rarely looked wider, and Warner Bros. knows it more than anybody. While the film is being touted as an embarrassment to its genre, many fans are backing Snyder's vision with excuses that range from shallow to silly. But the industry is built on perspective.
"Clearly, audiences have embraced it and we are already seeing repeat business," Warners domestic distribution chief Jeff Goldstein said. "It's just fun. Often there's a disconnect between critics and audiences. It doesn't take itself seriously. It's just an enjoyable afternoon at the movies."
He also added, "When you swing for the bleachers and connect, it's a tremendous feeling. This felt like we were launching several films, so to come through like this makes all of us very proud."
The seriousness behind a picture isn't defined by its bleak approach to its content, but rather it's commitment to the content. If we go by that definition, than it isn't taboo to say that it takes itself seriously, though it can be interpreted in a few ways.
Nevertheless, the film is a success, and it will be interesting to see how it holds up in its second week.
