Will Smith's 'Enemy of the State' getting a TV Adaptation
Jerry Bruckheimer, original producer of the 1998 film Enemy of the State, is bringing the story to the small screen, with ABC developing the series without any involvement from Will Smith.
Morgan Foehl is writing the script for the pilot. Set two decades after the original film, an elusive NSA spy is charged with leaking classified intelligence, leading to an idealistic female attorney to partner with an FBI agent to stop a global conspiracy.
ABC continues to look to male-driven action thrillers on top of their heavy, female-driven primetime shows such as Scandal. Nevertheless, to me it feels a shame that all of these films are getting adapted to TV in what can arguably be seen as glorified, cookie-cutter dramas that survive on name recognition alone.
