Willem Dafoe Joins Netflix's 'Deathnote' as the Death God
The dual Oscar-nominated actor Willem Dafoe has been cast in Netflix's Death Note as the death god responsible for the creation of the titular manuscript.
Adam Wingard's upcoming adaptation of the beloved manga is set to release next year, and with Dafoe playing the god Ryuk he joins a pretty solid cast that includes Nat Wolff, Margaret Qualley, Keith Stanfield, Paul Nakauchi, and Shea Wigham.
Ryuk acts as more of a spectator than a villain for the majority of the story, which follows a bright student named Light who finds the Death Note and uses it to kill people he deems deserving of death.
