'X-Men: Apocalypse' Dominates Friday Box Office, Leaves 'Alice Through the Looking Glass' Behind
Tracking at over $90 million initially, X-Men: Apocalypse has earned $26 million on friday and is set for a smaller take of $80 million at the rate it's going, which still sees it comfortably ahead of Disney's Alice sequel.
Alice Through the Looking Glass brought in a meager $9.8 million yesterday, with a likely haul of $41 million, estimated. Both films have been critically panned.
X-Men: Apocalypse sits on 48% on Rotten Tomatoes while Alice 2 is at 28%. While Batman v Superman had a big opening to poor critical reception, it'll be harder particularly for Alice in Wonderland to garner the same kind of audience draw.
X-Men: Days of Future Past also opened on Memorial Day weekend, to a gross of $110 million. Apocalypse was never expected to match it, but it looks like it'll fall measurably short. Both the X-Men and Alice sequel reportedly cost a budget of $170-80 million.
