'X-Men: Apocalypse' Sequel Title Possibly Revealed, May Shoot Early 2017
In the most recent issue of Production Weekly, a potential title has been listed for the next X-Men film to follow Apocalypse. While it floated around in December, presumably as a working title for X-Men: The New Mutants, the new listing has them both separately. While it has "Mutants" listed for a late April, 2017 shoot, it lists X-Men: Supernova as kicking off production in Mid May.
Another production site, My Entertainment World, lists the same title. Back before X-Men: Apocalypse landed, talk of a 90s-set sequel was circling, and Bryan Singer went on to say that "Another thing that's been introduced int he comics is a big alien, interstellar tenant within the X-Men universe that hasn't been explored."
That interview itself could have been alluding to the famous storyline The Dark Phoenix Saga, which has Jean Grey being possessed by a powerful cosmic entity (and was a storyline teased in the climax of Apocalypse).
While X-Men: Supernova could be a working title, it sounds like it could well be the real deal. For now, we'll take it with a grain of salt until we hear something official, but if for nothing else it looks likely that two new X-Men films are heading into production in the first part of 2017.
