'X-Men' Franchise Looking at a Soft Reboot, Bryan Singer Reportedly Not Returning
Six mainstream films into the X-Men franchise, on top of a slew of spin-offs, and things look like they're shaky following the critically underwhelming latest chapter in the series, Apocalypse.
THR is reporting that the X-Men franchise is being "reconfigured," and rumour has it that Bryan Singer, who has helmed the first two and the most recent two films, is not returning. In the meantime, writer/producer Simon Kinberg is getting work going on a new script.
Rumour has it that sequel talk has been less convincing than that for Apocalypse, which saw conceptual inception during the on-set days of Days of Future Past. THR's reports state that, with the franchise future unclear (its top three stars are out of contract as of Apocalypse), it may be the YA-type New Mutants film to try and reinvigorate Fox's machine.
