X-Men: New Mutants to start Filming in 2017, will Include Professor X
With plenty to come in the X-Men universe, Apocalpyse is the end to something but the beginning of the next phase. Now, Josh Boone's upcoming New Mutants spin-off looks to have a production target.
The screenplay is well on its way from Boone and Knate Lee, and the film, which is said to have a YA element to it, may begin production next year. Producer Simon Kinberg told Collider that the film is happening.
"Right now, as the movie exists, Professor X would be a part of a New Mutants movie." These comments give weight to early reports that indicated James McAvoy would reprise his role from the First Class trilogy as Charles Xavier.
Kinberg said that the film is targeting an early 2017 production commencement. This suggests the film will be looking to take the July 2018 date being held by 20th Century Fox for an unspecified X-Men picture.
