Meet the cast of Universal's 'The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle'
I think it’s safe to say Robert Downey Jr.’s career will do just fine as the center of any cinematic universe. Case and point, Universal’s live action-animated hybrid take on Hugh Lofting’s Doctor Dolittle series.
Today, Downey Jr. took to social media to announce a few fantastic cast additions for Universal's The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle. He even included a infographic with lovely headshots captioned: I am most pleased to announce the stellar voice cast joining me on #TheVoyageofDoctorDolittle.
Voyage of Doctor Dolittle's previously announced cast included Downey, Jr., as the film's titular "Doctor Dolittle," Ralph Fiennes, Emma Thompson, Tom Holland, and Selena Gomez as voice actors, along with Antonio Banderas, Michael Sheen, Harry Collett and Jim Broadbent cast in live-action roles. As if those talents didn't already do it for you, Downey Jr. will also be joined by Kumail Nanjiani, John Cena, Craig Robinson, Carmen Ejogo, Octavia Spencer, Marion Cotillard, Frances De La Tour, and Rami Malek as the Doctor's furry friends.
Production is currently underway in London, where Downey Jr. is set to take the reins from Eddie Murphy’s contemporary take on Doctor Dolittle’s uncanny ability to speak the languages of all animals to better understand nature and the history of the world. Writer and Director Stephen Gaghan (Gold, Traffic) reworked an earlier draft by Tom Shepherd. But it has not been confirmed if Gaghan’s Voyage of Doctor Dolittle will be a loose adaptation of Lofting’s six-part series of the same name released in 1922 or if it will encompass Dolittle's adventures in Lofting’s subsequent publications.
Either way, we're pretty excited to see this one through! The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle hits theaters April 12, 2019.
