'Avengers: Age of Ultron' Goes Massive on Opening Day at U.S. Box Office
Avengers: Age of Ultron made history on its opening day at the U.S. box office grossing approximately $84.5 million, the second biggest domestic launch ever.
It's first day of release numbers are only $5.5 million short of Warner Bros. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, which took $91 million on its opening day and currently holds the top spot for being the biggest opening day movie of all time.
However, Age of Ultron is $4.3 million ahead of the first Avengers movie, which took $80.8 million on its opening day. This puts Age of Ultron firmly ahead in breaking the total gross of the first Avengers movie.
This will be a tough weekend for Marvel and Disney to attract audiences to theatres given this weekend is all about sport. In Las Vegas, Manny Pacquaio and Floyd Mayweather have their much anticipated fight on Saturday night, which is expected to draw huge numbers on pay-per-view, along with the NBA Playoffs kicking into full swing with the conference semi-finals starting on Sunday. So far, the international total stands at $340 million.
