'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' will be filmed in IMAX
A rumour broke out during this summer that the Zack Snyder crossover movie, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, could be filmed using IMAX cameras. Nothing was confirmed or even mentioned since then regarding this tidbit of information, but now the rumour has been confirmed.
An IMAX spokesperson recently confirmed that IMAX cameras are being used for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. This comes as no real surprise. Batman v Superman is one of the most anticipated movies of 2016 and quite possibly, in recent history. Although details regarding how much of the movie will be shoot using IMAX cameras is yet unknown. It was recently reported that onlookers in Chicago witnessed a few scenes from Batman v Superman being shoot using IMAX cameras.
IMAX generally allow only a select few use their cameras every year. For example; this year Transformers: Age of Extinction and Christopher Nolan's Interstellar where the selected few who used the cameras. As for next year, we know Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens has used IMAX cameras for a few scenes, but beyond Star Wars, we don't know of another film using IMAX cameras for a release next year.
Warner Bros. who are producing Batman v Superman has a great relationship with IMAX, and several of their films are being re-masterd in IMAX (Jurassic World, Crimson Peak, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Tomorrowland, Warcraft, Furious 7). None of those films shoot in IMAX.
Filming with IMAX cameras give specific scenes a different aspect ratio on the giant screen and, more importantly, feature much greater resolution than normal thanks to the size of the 70mm film frame. These cameras are perfect for filming action sequences, sci-fi and superhero movies, so this comes as no surprise IMAX and Batman v Superman are working together.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is directed by Zack Snyder and stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. It is scheduled for a 25th March 2016 release.
