Benedict Cumberbatch Doesn't Know Why David Oyelowo Has Been Snubbed at Award Shows
It's been one of the most talked about subjects during this years awards season; why has David Oyelowo and Selma been overlooked by almost all of the prestigious award shows? Benedict Cumberbatch also thinks this, too.
The Imitation Game star was one of the many actors that walked the red carpet this past Sunday for the 2015 BAFTA Awards held at the Royal Opera House, London. Cumberbatch himself was up for Best Actor but was unsuccessful as another Brit, Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything), walked away with the gong. But, Cumberbatch believed another Brit should've been nominated.
“I wish David Oyelowo was here tonight,” Cumberbatch said on the red carpet. “I don’t understand it. He would have got my vote.”
BAFTA aren't the only ones who've snubbed the critically praised Oyelowo, who portrays Dr. Martin Luther King in Ava DuVernay’s drama. This past month the Academy announced the Oscars nominees to which there was sign of Oyelowo. Selma only managed two nominations for Best Picture and Best Original Song.
The 87th Academy Awards takes place on the 22nd February.
