Rumours Spell Danger for the DCEU's Dark Knight
With the up and down battle that is the solo Batman movie, we get some recent news that could spell trouble for the Dark Knight. The directors carousal that has plagued production started with Ben Affleck stating that he would be stepping down from the director's chair. The crown was then passed to Dawn of the Plant of the Apes director Matt Reeves (Still yet to be a done deal).
Now, rumour has it Affleck might be stepping down from the Batman role altogether. Take this news with a grain of salt. The source comes from Collider Movie talk where three separate sources have indicated that Ben wants to step down as Batman/Bruce Wayne entirely.
Grain of salt
Not to read too much into this but should the rumor be true, that would hit DC below the belt. They are already struggling to keep up with the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it is. But two questions remain should it be true. One: Why would Ben be throwing in the towel? Is the pressure of portraying this iconic character to much? Two: Who would replace him? In a world of reboots and recasting, it is hard to accept a new actor this soon in a role that we honestly love him in.
I guess we will have to wait and see what holds up in this story. I for one hope that is a rumor and nothing more.
